Sheep.

Our flock forms the most important part of our team. By their very nature, sheep live for vegetation control. They are able to access areas and traverse terrain that mechanical mowers are unable to. They can “mow” right up to obstructions without the risk of thrown debris or collisions that can be common of mowers.

Our main flock was unintentionally bred and developed for the job of solar grazing. These are hair sheep, which shed their fleece in the early summer rather than requiring shearing. While our original ewes were born all over the US, we placed a strong focus those first few years in selecting the genetics that could survive and thrive on the environment here in the corn belt; strong parasite resistance, healthy hooves, calm demeanor, and strong placing in the local markets were our selection criteria. Those that couldn’t produce strong lambs unassisted each year went down the road.
